GO BIG OR GO HOME

(Yesterday I heard some knuckle head talking about why it’s not reasonable to chase your dreams. It inspired me to write this…)
I love the glass half full philosophy. It’s been one of my favorites for years. It’s good logic, backed up by good science. Having said that, I’m not sure it’s the best philosophy any longer.
The glass half full mentality suggests we need to re-frame our current situation to see it in a positive light. It’s about dealing with reality constructively. While clearly useful, I sometimes wonder if this perspective creates mental handcuffs. Maybe it encourages us to over-focus on the here and now. Sometimes a glass half full mentality can actually turn into a game of “well, it could be worse.”
I think we can do better. The main focus should not be where we are, but where we’re going. It’s about believing in possibilities even more than your current reality. Stop dwelling on the glass. It’s time to go big or go home. Stay focused on the long-term goal, the dream you’re chasing.
Great success always starts with dreaming. There are a million challenges you’ll need to face with a solid glass half full perspective on your journey. Just don’t lose sight of the prize. Go big or go home.
Lots of pundits today suggest that telling others to stay focused on their dreams is silly and unreasonable. Stop listening to them immediately! A perspective grounded in limits never helped anyone change themselves for the better.
Instead, believe this: you can work harder, you can work smarter, you can become a better version of yourself, you can repeat this process until you achieve everything you want. If you’re smart, you’ll also realize that the journey is just as fulfilling as the achievement.
Or you could just listen to the “don’t chase your dreams” crowd, always play it safe, avoid serious failures, and succeed in being unremarkable. Not me. I choose to dream. Go big or go home.
